Taxonomy of Terms / VIII. Aesthetics and form
CNS term. Defined on this site.
A reading practice that understands poetic repetition as stimming and stimming as composition. Refrain, anaphora, metre, echo and formal constraint do regulatory work: they modulate arousal, distribute sensory load and make duration bearable. If poetic repetition is regulatory, the clinical effort to extinguish repetitive behaviour is also a literary judgement, made without literary vocabulary.
