Neuronormativity

Taxonomy of Terms / III. Power and capture

Shared vocabulary, operationalised. N. Walker (2014); Bertilsdotter Rosqvist, Chown and Stenning (2020); C. N. Walker (2026).

The set of assumptions, practices and institutional arrangements that establish one cognitive-affective style as the unmarked standard against which others are measured, managed and corrected. CNS specifies the norm through three criteria, coherence, continuity and quantifiability, and treats affect and regulation as internal to it rather than separate from it. It locates the norm in the cognitive and affective architecture of texts and interfaces as well as in attitudes and institutions, and pairs it with neurocapture as its means of enforcement.
