Taxonomy of Terms / II. The governing paradigm
Foundational. Walker (2012).
The pathology paradigm treats divergence as deficit and disorder. The neurodiversity paradigm holds that neurodiversity is natural human variation, that the idea of one normal mind is a cultural construction, and that the social dynamics around neurodiversity resemble those around other forms of human diversity, including their dynamics of power. CNS works from the second paradigm and asks what it leaves unexamined.
